GREAT BEND — James Allen Queen, 80, died Feb. 19, 2012 at his home in Great Bend.
Born Oct. 8, 1931 in Otis, he was the son of Jesse Thomas and Amelia (Schlegel) Queen.
On June 8, 1961, he married Opal M. Schroeder Denney in Great Bend. She died on March 12, 1991.
A Great Bend resident most of his life, he was a painter for M.J. Suellentrop and was later self-employed. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoying his time in the outdoors.
Survivors include a son, James W. Queen and wife Darlene, Great Bend; a step-daughter, Connie Thompson and husband Kenneth, Great Bend; two sisters, Garnetta Blair and her husband Kenny and Marjorie Adams, all of Great Bend; three grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a stepson, Jerry Denney; a brother, Allen Queen; and a sister, Esther Jenkins.
Funeral services are scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 at Bryant Funeral Home with Kurt Spivey officiaitng. Burial will be at the Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may visit from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to service time Thursday at Bryant Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
