Jan Carpenter Sink 1935 - 2015

MCPHERSON — Jan Carpenter Sink, 79, wife, mother and grandmother, died Jan. 16, at Galichia Heart Hospital in Wichita. Born May 12, 1935, McPherson, she was the daughter of Fred D. and Evelyn M. (Sward) Carpenter.  In 1953, she graduated from McPherson High School. On Jan. 28, 1956, she was united in marriage to Edwin L. Sink, Jr. in McPherson. He preceded her in death on Feb. 11, 1999. She had worked for State Farm Insurance and Tri-County Special Education Co-op, both in Independence, before retiring from Commerce Bank in Bonner Springs, and relocating to McPherson. She volunteered at Save N’ Share in McPherson and the McPherson Hospital.   Mrs. Sink was an active member of First Baptist Church in McPherson, TOPS, and a former member of the Strikes & Spares Bowling League of Independence.
Survivors include four children: Jerry L. Sink and wife, Priscilla, Colbert, Wash.; Kathryn L. Sink-Bertie and Jerry W. Green, Bartlesville, Okla.; Kelli A. Sink-Farber and husband, Scott, Rose Hill; and Jeffrey E. Sink and wife, Laura, St. Louis, Mo.; and nine grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, step-mother Emerald Hapgood Carpenter, her brother Robert (Bob) Carpenter and her aunt, Mildred Miller.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, at the First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Chaucer Estates (Wichita) in care of the funeral home.
