Jane Helen Bowyer 1931 - 2016

Jane Helen Bowyer, 85, died June 9, 2016, at Leisure Homestead in St. John. Born March 21, 1931, in Ellis, she was the daughter of Fred W. and Aethel (Bruegel) Homburg. On June 5, 1955, she married LaVern George Bowyer at the St. John Lutheran Church in Ellis. He died on Feb. 12, 2006. A Great Bend resident since 1986, coming from rural Albert, she was a homemaker, retired dairy farmer and farm wife, Avon Lady and owner and operator of the Jayhawker Motel in Great Bend.
Mrs. Bowyer was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Albert, where she played an active role in church activities, ELCW, Sunday School Teacher, church choir, church custodian, and flower committee.
Survivors include, one son, Ernie Bowyer of Great Bend; two sisters, Doris Betthauser of Dexter, and Kay Enna of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister-in-law, June Bowyer-Sowell of Chico, Texas; one grandson, B. J. Bowyer; and four great-grandchildren, A. J. Bowyer, Alvin Bowyer, Jackson Bowyer and London Bowyer. She was preceded in death by one son, Vernie Bowyer; and one sister, Ione Buchheister.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday at Peace Lutheran Church in Albert with the Rev. Shelly Klingensmith officiating. Inurnment will be at the Peace Lutheran Church Cemetery in Albert. Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., on Sunday at Bryant Funeral Home.
