LARNED — Jarold Eugene Schmidt, 77, passed away Oct. 14, 2017 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.
Born June 14, 1940 in Great Bend, he was the son of Fred William and Velma Delores (Schultz) Schmidt and Grandson of Rev. J.B. Schmidt and Peter Christian Schultz of Pawnee Rock. A lifetime resident of Barton county and Pawnee county, he worked at several electronic shops until he opened his own TV repair shop in Great Bend, where he worked until his retirement June 1, 2005.
He was raised in the Mennonite Church at Pawnee Rock, where he was confirmed the age of 12. He became a member of the Peace Lutheran Church, Albert, in 1959, and most recently was listed as a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Larned.
He attended the Pawnee Rock School system in Pawnee Rock, where he graduated from High School in 1958. He studied electronics from the RCA Institutes by mail, graduating August, 1959. His hobbies were model airplane building and he helped organize the Model Association of Central Kansas.
He married Ruth Marlene Petersen on May 19, 1959 at Peace Lutheran Church, Albert. She survives.
Other survivors include; three sons, Todd M. (Kenda), Fort Scott, Curtis R.(Kerry), Larned and Trenten W. (Sandra), Cleveland, Okla.; a brother, Sandy L. Schmidt, Pawnee Rock; a sister, Sharon F. Schaefer, Mound City; a daughter-in-law, Crystal Schmidt, Larned; six grandchildren, Tarrah Goodison, Paige Peterson, Reid Schmidt, Scott Schmidt, Nick Schmidt and Kayla Smith; and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Clay S. Schmidt.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Beckwith Mortuary with Pastor Nicholas Martinez presiding. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the mortuary. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery, Larned, Kansas.
