Jayne Kay Wapelhorst, 60, died June 21, 2017, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. She was born Sept. 18, 1956, at Hutchinson, the daughter of Arthur Wilson and Frankie Lea (Watkins) Keffer. She was a 1975 graduate of Great Bend High School. She was married to Frank Wapelhorst from 1985 to 2000. She was a CNA for Dominican Sisters of Peace and had worked for Fresenius Kidney Care in Great Bend for 21 years. Ms. Wapelhorst was a lifetime Great Bend resident.
She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and the Altar Society and had spent many years performing with the Argonne Rebels Drum and Bugle Corps.
Survivors include great-niece, Hadleigh Renee Thorne of Hudson, for whom she was guardian; three sisters, Anita Ellen Fischer and husband Dennis of Great Bend, Jean Herrman and her partner Larry Partridge of Great Bend, and Anna Donecker and her husband Craig of Great Bend; three brothers, Arthur E. Keffer and his wife Terri of Ellinwood, William G. “Bill” Keffer and his wife Vicki of Great Bend, and Lee A. Keffer and his wife Brenda of Russell; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a niece, Jayne Lea Shumate.
Altar Society Rosary was at 4 p.m. and Vigil service was at 7 p.m., Sunday, June 25, at Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend, with Father Ted Stoecklein officiating. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery.
