Jean Marie Swanson 1934 - 2017

Jean’s life began on November 25, 1934, the daughter of Charles Barney and Louise Garnett (Shaffer) Taylor in El Dorado. She graduated from Holyrood High School in Holyrood, and married Robert Lawrence Swanson on January 8, 1956, in Nevada, Mo.
Jean owned and operated a restaurant, was a cashier for J.C. Penney’s, Wal-Mart and worked at Curves. She was a member of the Leon Baptist Church, played the guitar, piano, keyboard and loved to sing.
Her loving family includes her sons, Bruce Swanson and Gary Swanson both of Great Bend, Greg (Jen) Swanson of Coon Rapids, Minn.; daughters, Linda (Robert) Richardson of Fort Worth, Texas and Dianna (Harlan) Stoss of Olmitz; twin sister, Joan Milene of Leon; half-brother Steve (Sue) Bullard of Nephia, Utah; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 6 nieces and nephews, 3 very special nieces, Marilyn, Jeannette, and Julie.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; and a son, Bill Canfield. Jean passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, having reached the age of 82 years old.
Her family will gather with friends on Saturday, June 24, from noon - 2 p.m. with her funeral service following at the First Baptist Church of Leon, with Chaplain Roger Megli officiating. Interment will follow in the Leon Cemetery. Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to First Baptist Church, 107 S. Maple, Leon, Kansas 67074.
