DAMAR — Jerome Benoit, 86, died Sept. 13 at the Graham County Hospital in Hill City. Born Feb. 10, 1926, in rural Damar, he was the son of Armond and Theresa (Boucher) Benoit. On June 12, 1944, he married Teresa Bernice Thyfault in Damar. She died on April 29, 2005. A lifetime area resident of Damar, he was a dairy farmer and a stockman.
Mr. Benoit was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Damar.
Survivors include two sons, Steve Benoit of Blair, Neb., and John Benoit of Damar; four daughters, Marilyn Skolaut of Olmitz, Judy Charboneau of Hays, Lydia New of Lawrence and Thelma Berland of Damar; a brother, Richard Benoit of Damar; a sister, Zeta Gnad of Hays; 21 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, Gil, and Bernie; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Damar with Father Henry Saw Lone and Father Donald McCarthy officiating. Burial will be at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Damar. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church. Friends may visit from 3-5:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and from 9-10:30 a.m. Monday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Masses or the Graham County Hospital.
