Jerome “Jerry” Schnittker

Jerome “Jerry” Schnittker, 91, died June 29th, 2021 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, Kan. He was born Jan. 8th, 1930 in Nashville, Kan., to John and Dora Schnittker. Jerry married Phyllis J. Leonard Aug. 2nd, 1958, in Dodge City, Kan. She predeceased Jerry in 1995.

A longtime resident of Great Bend, Jerry graduated from Cunningham High School in 1947. He then served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army Reserve.  From there, he graduated from Kansas State University in 1953, with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Coming to Great Bend in 1961, he was the owner and operator of The Credit Bureau of Great Bend and Hays for nearly 40 years.

Jerry was a member of Prince of Peace Parish. He enjoyed traveling, southwestern culture and art, family gatherings, and K-State sports.

Survivors include his three sons, Craig Schnittker of Great Bend, Clay Schnittker and wife Jill Schnittker of Lenexa, Kan., and Christopher Schnittker of Franklin, Tenn.; grandchildren Kaylie Schnittker of Lincoln, Neb., Max Schnittker of Wichita, Alec Schnittker of Lenexa, and Jack Schnittker of Lenexa; and long-time dear friend Eleanor Bell. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Norman Schnittker, John Schnittker, Don Schnittker, and Joan Schnittker. 

Cremation has taken place, and a Rosary will be held at 10 a.m., at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial following at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 9, 2021. Inurnment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the United States Navy. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been designated to Wounded Warrior and Prince of Peace Parish, in care of Bryant Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
