HOISINGTON — Jerry D. Deines, 82, died December 23, 2021, at Medicalodges of Great Bend.  He was born Aug. 5, 1939, in Great Bend, the son of Lawrence and Evelyn (Brack) Deines.  He graduated from Otis High School in 1957 and later from barber school in Wichita.  He also served in the Army Reserves. 

Jerry worked as a barber for many years in Hoisington, first at Deutsch’s Barber Shop and later on his own as Jerry’s Barber Shop.  He later moved to Russell and worked at the city’s water plant until he retired.  But, always, his first love was farming; he farmed with his father and brother.

He was a past member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Hoisington, and then St. John Lutheran, Russell.  Upon moving back to Hoisington, he attended Emmanuel Lutheran Church.  

On May 29, 1961, he married Gwenda Chambers in Hoisington.  They later divorced.  He then married Janet “Jan” (Sizer) Dassow on Feb. 4, 1999. She survives. 

 Survivors include: his wife, Jan Deines, of the home; two daughters, Lisa Stambaugh and husband Jerry, and Laura Deines, all of Hoisington; stepchildren, Matt Dassow and wife Lynn of Missouri City, Texas, Craig Dassow of Salina, Beth Perry and husband Gene of Axtell, and Tyler Dassow and wife Rachel of Vancouver, Wash.; a brother, Larry Deines and wife Diane of Galatia, and three sisters, Karen Keil of Edmond, Okla., Gloria Myers of Ellinwood, and Denise Schulte of Great Bend; two grandchildren, Macy Reinert and husband Logan, and Nash Stambaugh; step-grandchildren, Jessica Mullens and husband Trey, Elina Dassow, Kate Perry, Cheyenne Chapin, Sierra Perry, Addison Dassow, and Kelby Dassow; and step-great-grandchildren, Tess Mullens, London Mullens, Nolan Mullens, Landry Mullens, and Zayden Taylor.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law, Jerry Keil, Robert Myers, and Greg Schulte.

Visitation will be Monday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with family to greet friends from 6-8 p.m., and a prayer service to begin at 7 p.m., all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Galatia, with Rhonda Templing, SAM, presiding.  Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Galatia.
