Jo Ann Novotny, 57, died July 2, 2016, at her home in Great Bend. Born March 9, 1959, in Larned she was the daughter of Gerald and Winona (Seltmann) Smiley. On July 8, 1978, she married Rick Novotny in Larned. A Great Bend resident since 1988, coming from Larned, she was a Certified Medical Technologist for Central Kansas Medical Center for 20 years and Great Bend Regional Hospital for five years.
Survivors include husband, Rick Novotny, of the home; one son, Ryan Novotny of Great Bend; and one daughter, Amber Shattuck and her husband Nathan of Great Bend. She was preceded in death by two brothers, LeRoy Smiley and Gary Smiley; and one infant sister.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 9 at Bryant Funeral Home with Pastor Josh Foster officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Ash Valley Cemetery in Larned. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to the Golden Belt Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
