Joan Charles, 84, died Jan. 5, 2015, at her home in Great Bend. She was born Dec. 2, 1930, at Oswego, the daughter of Clyde and Evelyn (Claxton) Morain. She was a butcher at Don’s Food Mart, Great Bend. Ms. Charles was a long-time Great Bend resident, also residing in McKinney, Texas, and Hutchinson.
She was a member of Eastwood Church of Christ, Hutchinson. She was an avid bowler and involved in the foster grandparent program, South Hutchinson.
Survivors include four sons, David Gene Corkill and his wife Kimberly of Great Bend, Jack Edwards Corkill and his wife Nancy of El Dorado, Clyde Spencer Corkill and his wife Bev of Lawrence, and William Allen Corkill of Great Bend; one daughter, Carolyn Jo Moudy of Allen, Texas; two sisters, Helen Snay of Thomas, Okla., and Dee Johnson of Redmond, Wash.; two brothers, Ron Morain of Dallas, Texas, and Alfred Morain of Oregon; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Tony Moudy; one brother, Olen Morain; and one sister, Ivy Maltbie.
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at Eastwood Church of Christ in Hutchinson with Jimmy Ray Mead, officiant. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Foster Grandparent Program, in care of Bryant Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
