John D. Cargill 1919-2014

John D. Cargill, 95, died March 22 at Sterling House, Great Bend.  Born Feb. 14, 1919, he was the son of John P. and Decie (Crosby) Gargill.
John married Helen Rose Kizer August 14, 1943 at Salina.  She died September 4, 2007.  A Great Bend, Kansas resident since 1973, coming from Hoisington and El Dorado, He was a supervisor for Lee Phillips Oil Company.  A member of the First Presbyterian Church, he enjoyed the fellowship with the Church men’s coffee club.
Survivors include a daughter, Dianne Schippert and husband Jim of Great Bend; four sisters, Gladys Towers of Byars, Okla., Lois Kuphal of Sun City, Ariz., Opal McBroom of Manford, Okla., and Juanita Johnson of Sapulpa, Okla.; two grandchildren:  David Schippert and wife Jessica, and their children Ella, Anna, and Alia, of Springfield, Mo. and Brian Schippert and wife Rebecca, of Wichita.  He was preceded in death by three sisters, Pauline Harowitz, Margie Cammack, and Evaline Cargill; and by a brother, Basil Cargill.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 25, at 2 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. Scott Solether officiating.  Interment will be at Great Bend Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m., Monday, March 24, at Bryant Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.  Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net
