Judith Elaine Piland, 75, died Feb. 12 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita. Born Aug. 19, 1937, in Sterling, she was the daughter of Julius and Mildred (Beck) Boepple. On Jan. 28, 1956, she married Basil Loyd Piland in Great Bend. He died on July 27, 2010.
A lifetime resident of Great Bend, she was a medical transcriptionist for 45 years, working for Central Kansas Medical Center and Central Kansas Medical Park. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling, served as a school crossing guard, and worked at the Great Bend Raptor Center and Zoo.
Mrs. Piland was a member of the First Christian Church in Great Bend and was board president of Kansas Association for Health Care Documentation Integrity.
Survivors include a son, Jeffery Piland of Manassas, Va.; a sister, Shirley Bundy of Madora; and two grandchildren, Joshua Ahrens and Dakota Piland. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Michael Anne Ahrens; a sister, Joyce Boepple; and three brothers, Larry Boepple, Julian Boepple, and George Boepple.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at Bryant Funeral Home with the Rev. William F. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at the Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may visit from 1 to 9 p.m., with family present from 6 to 8 p.m., on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Ronald McDonald House or the First Christian Church Youth Fund, in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
