ABILENE — June (Cary) Boxum, 94, died Oct. 9, 2016, at Village Manor in Abilene. Born June 19, 1922, in Downs she was the daughter of Warren and Celeste Cary. She attended school in Downs, graduating in 1940. Later, she graduated from Brown Mackie School of Business. On June 17, 1945, she married Lloyd Boxum. He died on Oct. 22, 2009. After retiring as a secretary from Great Bend School District #428, she was employed at the Hatchet Motel in Moran, Wyo. She also spent many years making and teaching ceramics in her ceramic shop.
Survivors include four children, Beverly Sutter of Abilene, Belva Hauxwell, of Hays, Bruce Boxum, of Gatlinburg, Tenn. and Brice Boxum, of Albuquerque, N.M.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother, Howard (Joyce) Cary, of Downs; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday at Downs Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene. In lieu of flower, memorials are suggested to Village Manor or First Christian Church in Abilene in care of the funeral home.
