ELLINWOOD — June Schiewe, 80, died Feb. 6 at Ellinwood District Hospital. Born June 16, 1930, in Sylvia, she was the daughter of Harry Merwin Shultz and Electa Lee Strawn Shultz. She attended Nickerson schools. An Ellinwood resident since 1963, formerly of San Diego, Calif., and Nickerson, she was a sales clerk at Litwin’s and Brown’s in Great Bend and the manager of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. On Sept. 12, 1977, she married Harold E. Schiewe in Ellinwood. He died on Dec. 9, 2008.

Mrs. Schiewe was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Auxiliary, Grove Park Golf Club and the Ellinwood Garden Club, all of Ellinwood.

Survivors include two sons, Vernon L. Dunlap of Claflin and Michael Schartz of Cleveland, Ark.; two daughters, Beverly Gray of Thornton, Colo. and Sheila Kay Jones of Ramona, Calif.; a step-daughter, Kristi Hillshafer of Ellinwood; three brothers, Delbert Shultz of Hutchinson, Darrell Shultz of Raymond and Douglas Shultz of Nickerson; three sisters, Dorothy Wall of Hutchinson, Darlene Eiland of Camden, Ark. and Diana Parsons of Pratt; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchldren. She was preceded in death by two grandsons, David Quincy Dunlap and Douglas Johnson Gray.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Jeffrey Frakes officiating. Burial will be at the Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home, with the family receiving friends from 6-7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Ellinwood Hospital Auxiliary or the Ellinwood Garden Club.
