Katherine Wandalee Lee Stalcup 1929 - 2015


STAFFORD — Lee Stalcup, 85, died April 29, 2015 at Kenwood Plaza in St. John.
She was born Oct. 13, 1929, in Great Bend, to Martha Marie (Chadd) and Edward Pundsack. Her father died when she was almost three years old; Marie later married George Besser.
Lee, also known as Wanda, was married to Lawrence Stalcup for 20 years. They had seven children in nine years. Lee was a member of St. John the Apostle Church in St. John. She worked in the meat market at C.O. Mammel Food Stores with Lawrence. She was a self-employed cosmetologist in her home in Stafford while raising her six children, and later earned a degree in bookkeeping at the Central Business College in Wichita. She worked at two women’s clothing stores in Topeka, then managed the Longfellow Apartments and later Sally’s Beauty Supply and PayLess Beauty Supply, and worked at JC Penney, all in Wichita. She lived in California for a short time with her son, David, working at his cafeteria in San Francisco. She then returned to Stafford and was innkeeper at Clare and Nancy Moore’s Henderson House Bed and Breakfast and was a cook at Cornerstone Child Care before retiring. Her beloved family was always her highest priority.
Survivors include sons, Randy Stalcup, Andover; and Kent (Sharon O’Sullivan) Stalcup, Pacheco, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Annie Stalcup, Pismo Beach, Calif.; three daughters, Pam (Terry Nation) Stalcup, Lindsborg; Cathy Stalcup, Lindsborg; and Nancy (Rex) Hildebrand, Stafford; two sisters, Bonnie Grisamore and JoAnn Kerbs; brother Terry Besser; 11 grandchildren, Stephen Stalcup, Bill Stalcup, Laurie Lyons, Bradly Coltrane, Trevor Stalcup, Benjamin Ballard, Shannon Woolley, Tiffanie Maloney, Nathan Hildebrand, Jeremy Hildebrand, and Katie Lee Hildebrand; 16 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Lee was preceded in death by sons Robert “Bobby” (3 months old) and David; and daughter-in-law Clara Stalcup.
Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 9, at the Great Bend Cemetery (west end). Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 9 at St. John The Apostle Catholic Church Center at St. John followed by family visitation until 4 p.m.
