BURLINGTON — Kathryn Marie Buchanan Gant, 31, of Burlington, died June 10 from a tragic car accident. She was born Sept. 14, 1979, in Council Grove, to Joe and Rita (Murphy) Buchanan. Katie attended Council Grove Elementary, Middle and High School. She graduated from Ft. Hays State in 2002, with an associate’s degree in radiology technology and a bachelor’s degree in medical diagnostic imaging.
On June 25, 2005, she married Gabriel Gant in Council Grove.
She earned her master’s degree from Baker University in 2007. In 2008, she and her family moved to Burlington. She was employed as Director of Radiology at Allen County Hospital in Iola. She worked variously at Baker’s Thriftway, the Family Health Center of Morris County and baby-sitting.
Katie enjoyed traveling, shopping, helping others and spending time with family. She loved being a wife and mother. Her children were the loves of her life.
She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Council Grove and the Council Grove Swim Club, as well as a Braves cheerleader.
Survivors include three children, Myles Murphy, 7, Finn Turk, 4, and Capri Jo, who will be 2 on Thursday, all of the home; her parents, of Council Grove; godparents, Michael and Rose Murphy, of Great Bend; three brothers, Ryan and wife Jessica of Hutchinson, Dave and wife Cindy of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Tom and partner Sandy Darabouthirath of Emporia; three brothers-in law, Matthew Gant and wife Traci of Emporia, Joshua Gant of Council Grove, and Isaac Carr of Dwight; three other sisters-in-law, Rebekah Carr of Council Grove, Lacey Ross and husband Chris of Junction City, and Kaylee Sarratt of Council Grove; fathers-in-law and mothers-in-law, Doug and Paula Gant of Council Grove and Steve and Nancy Carr of Dwight; grandmothers, Roberta Buchanan of Little River and Babe Carr of Dwight; two nephews, Evan Carr and Brenton Ross; and three nieces, Bailey Buchanan, Alexis Buchanan, and Addison Ross; 23 first cousins, and numerous other cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Guy Buchanan, and grandparents, J.W. and Alma Murphy.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Council Grove.
