Kenneth D. “Ken” Williams, 74, died on April 13 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born Feb. 14, 1939 in Stephenville, Texas, he was the son of Myrl and Ruth (Onions) Williams. On Aug. 15, 1959 he married Nancy Giebler in Hays. She survives. Growing up in Liberal, he was a Great Bend resident since 1963, coming from Hays. He served as the C.F.O. for Central Kansas Medical Center for twenty years, retiring in 1988. Following, he operated Abacus Accounting, serving as the interim C.F.O. and consultant for respective hospitals in Pratt, Abilene, McPherson, and Plainville. He later served as the C.F.O. for Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington for ten years.
Mr. Williams was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Great Bend, where he served as church treasurer. He had also served as president of the State and Regional Hospital Finance Management Organization. He enjoyed (ARRL) Ham Radio operation and was a computer enthusiast, writing software programs for hospital management, some of which are still used today.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Williams, of the home;two sons, Kurt Williams and wife Kim of Hoisington and Karl Williams and wife Elaina of Knoxville, Tenn.; one daughter, Julie Foster and husband Scott of Great Bend; and five grandchildren, Garrett Foster, Holly Foster, Bailey Foster, Trevor Williams, and Jack Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents, Myrl Williams and Ruth Onions; and a nephew, Patrick Brown.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Great Bend with the Rev. Dr. Scott V. Solether officiating. Burial will be at the Great Bend Cemetery North. Friends may visit from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at Bryant Funeral Home.
