RUSSELL — Kenneth Lorence “Larry” Nowak, 75, died Feb. 11, 2012 at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.
Born Dec. 16, 1936 in Gorham, he was the son of Henry and Mae (Schulte) Nowak. He grew up in Gorham and graduated from Gorham High School in 1955. On Sept. 24, 1956 he married Mary Alice Dinkel in Gorham. He was the owner and operator of the Hays Vacuum and Sewing Center for over 40 years in Hays.
Mr. Nowak was a member of the St. Mary’s Queen of Angels Catholic Church. He was a third degree in the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice of the home; a son, Kent Nowak, Russell; two daughters Karen Martindell, Topeka; and Deb Ball, Hays; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother Eddy Nowak; and a sister Evelyn Adler.
A Funeral Mass is scheduled at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church of Russell with Father Charles Steier officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary with a Vigil being held at 7 p.m. at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s Catholic Gorham Cemetery Fund, St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church or Russell Senior Center, in care of the funeral home.
