Kent A. Knop 1938 - 2017

ELLINWOOD — Kent A. Knop, 78, passed away on April 3, 2017, at Ellinwood District Hospital. Born Sept. 3, 1938, in Great Bend, he was the son of Alvin Carl and Mary Gretchen (Isern) Knop. In 1956 he graduated from Ellinwood High School. On Feb. 12, 1961, he married Rose Cregger at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ellinwood. He was a farmer, rancher, and dairyman from a very young age; later he continued to farm as well as working jobs in the oil field and construction.
Mr. Knop served his country for eight years in the Army National Guard as a part of the 130th Artillery Division. Memberships include St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ellinwood and the Ark Valley Muzzleloaders Association.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Knop of Ellinwood; a son, Jeff and Patty Knop, of Collyer; a daughter, Stephanie and Michael Moos, of Ellinwood; a brother, Don and Janice Knop, of Ellinwood; a sister, Susan Kowitz of Hutchinson; and grandchildren, Karly and Adam Snyder, Nicole and Logan Jansonius, and Devin and Derek Moos.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 6, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ellinwood with the Rev. Tom Thierfelder officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery in Ellinwood. Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. Wednesday, with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m., at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church or Ellinwood EMS in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be posted at www.minnischapel.org.
