Kevin Damein Gilbert, 18, died Sept. 5 at his home in Great Bend. Born Oct. 18, 1992 in Wichita, he was the son of Scott Gilbert and Betsy Murphy. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he lived with his grandparents. He was employed recently for Hendrick’s Exotic Animal Farm. His passions included golfing, fishing, chess, four-wheeling, and target shooting.
Kevin was a member of the First Street Church of God in Hoisington.
Survivors include his father, Scott Gilbert of Wichita; his mother, Betsy Murphy of Wichita; maternal grandparents, Charles Chism and Jerrie Breese, of Great Bend; his paternal grandmother, Dorothy Schnittker of Wenden, Ariz.; three brothers, Kaedon Murphy and Dakota Murphy, both of Viola, Ark. and Devin Gilbert, of Wichita; a sister, Shauna Stuhlsatz, of Wichita; girlfriend, Samantha Marie Wilms, of Great Bend; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Leon Schnittker.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the First Church of God, 1224 Baker Ave., in Great Bend with the Rev. Dick Ogle officiating. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Kevin Gilbert expense fund in care of the funeral home.
