DERBY — Larry D. Hart, 66, died at his home Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016. He was born March 3, 1950, to Otis and Ruby (Henning) Hart in Great Bend. After graduating from Great Bend High School in 1968, Larry attended Sterling College where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Psychology. He later earned his master’s degree in Counseling from Pittsburg State University where he met and married Sandy Stroup on May 25, 1974. Larry and Sandy moved to Dodge City, where he was a counselor for Vocation Rehabilitation Services.
On Nov. 26, 1977, he welcomed his daughter, Amanda Jo, the light of his life. The Hart family relocated to Derby in 1990.
Larry was an avid sports fan. He pitched for his high school baseball team, played for the American Legion, and then went semi-professional. Larry enjoyed golfing, traveling with his family, and doing projects around the house. His family will cherish the memories of the trips to Kansas City to attend Royals games, his love of classic movies, and steak on Saturdays.
Larry is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sandy Hart; daughter, Amanda (Dan) Mingori; and sister, Carole (C.W.) Butler. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3 at Living Word Christian Church 201 N. Derby Ave. in Derby. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3-8 p.m. Friday, with family present from 5-7 p.m., at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Living Word Christian Church.
