ELLINWOOD — Larry Gene Dannebohm, 73, died peacefully with his family by his side, Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at the Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita, Kansas. Born May 11, 1944, to Stanley and Irene (Parker) Dannebohm, he was a lifelong central Kansas resident, and a 1962 graduate of Ellinwood High School. He farmed and ranched in Barton, Stafford, and Kiowa counties. He was also an agent and board member for Farmers Mutual Insurance Company in Ellinwood, Kansas, where he served as a board member for 32 years, of that 14 years as Vice President and three years as Assistant Secretary/Treasurer. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1966-1969, stationed in Bainbridge, Maryland, and San Diego, California.
Larry married the love of his life, Jamee Stevenson of Ellinwood, on May 29, 1965, who survives him. He is also survived by his sister, Marilyn (Dannebohm) Meyer, Garden City, Kansas; son, Jon Dannebohm, Ellinwood; daughter, Laura Dannebohm, Fort Wayne, Indiana; foreign-exchange daughter, Hanka Borst (Bas Brouns), Heemstede, The Netherlands; four grandchildren, Steven, Miriam, and Hannah Atteberry, and Doutzen Brouns. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers and their spouses, Donald (Wanda), Robert (Ramona), and Gary Dannebohm; and his brother-in-law, Robert Meyer.
Larry loved horses and cattle and was known locally as a cowboy. He won Saddle Club trophies as a young boy and went on to help many neighbors drive cattle and rope and doctor cattle over the years. Fond of the cowboy lifestyle, Larry joked that he was “born 100 years too late.” He also enjoyed spending time with his friends and fellow veterans at the American Legion in Ellinwood, where he was a member and served as a vice commander of the Ellinwood Chapter.
