CLAFLIN — Larry Gene Garrett, 60, died Oct. 7 at his home in Claflin. He was born July 25, 1950, at Forrest City, Ark., the son of Carlton Daniel and Luna Winona (Beard) Garrett. He married June Agnes Arends on Feb. 27, 1975, at Great Bend. A Claflin resident since 1974, coming from Schell City, Mo., he was a self-employed truck driver.
Mr. Garrett served during Vietnam in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed rebuilding classic cars and collecting model cars.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; mother, of El Dorado Springs, Mo.; one son, Gary D. Garrett and wife Kristen of Wichita; one daughter, Rachael D. Garrett and future son-in-law Travis Nagel of Great Bend; two sisters, Linda G. Bailey and Alice L. Huston, both of Schell City, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Jacob Gene Garrett and Haley Marie Garrett, and one on the way. He was preceded in death by his father; one son, Larry Carlton Garrett; and one brother, Daniel Carlton Garrett.
Vigil service will be at 7 tonight at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Mass of Christian burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Claflin, with Father Charles Mazouch officiating. Interment will be at Claflin Cemetery with military honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
