ELLINWOOD — Larry N. Rickert, 84, passed away surrounded by his loving family on July 28, 2016, in Hutchinson. Born on Dec. 21, 1931, near Ellinwood he was the son of John and Elizabeth (Klepper) Rickert. In 1949, he graduated from Ellinwood High School. He later married Lorraine Matza. She preceded him in death on March 4, 2015. They settled in Ellinwood where they were residents for 52 years. Mr. Rickert served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and the VFW for over 60 years.
Survivors include sons, David Rickert of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Fr. John Rickert, FSSP of Omaha, Neb., two daughters, Christine (Mark) Becker, of Hutchinson, and Barbara (Jim) Lubbe, of Wichita; a sister, Jeanine Gowdy; 11 grandchildren’ and 15 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his brother Keith Rickert; sister-in-law Dayle Rickert; and brother-in-law Loren Gowdy.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellinwood with Father Terrance Klein presiding. Burial will follow at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery in Ellinwood. There will be no public viewing. The family will be present at 6 p.m. on Monday, with a Vigil Service and rosary beginning at 7 p.m. at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to St Joseph Catholic Church or Sts Peter and Paul restoration fund in care of the funeral home.
