LARNED — Laura Augusta Kirkwood, 67, passed away April 27, 2022 at her home in Larned.

She was born Aug. 21, 1954 in Larned, the daughter of Adolph and Patricia Howe Stueckemann.

A lifetime area resident of Larned and Garfield, she was a school bus driver for USD 495, a cook at Larned High School, and later worked in medical coding at Larned State Hospital where she retired in March of 2020. She was of the Methodist faith and enjoyed traveling with her friends, being a farm wife, checking baby calves, gardening, and baking. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

On Aug. 14, 1976 she married Kent A. Kirkwood at Larned; he preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 2017.

Survivors include two sons, Levi (Lila Metzker) Kirkwood, Afton, Okla., Ross Kirkwood, Larned; daughter, Tasha (Scott Honey) Starr, Fairland, Okla.; two sisters, Lee Anne Williams, Larned, Layna Dechant, Phoenix, Ariz.; aunt, Jo Ann Stueckemann, Apple Valley, Minn.; six grandchildren, Tristen Kirkwood, Brooke Tudor, Lane Tudor, Taryn Kirkwood, Treyton Kirkwood, and Jesse Starr; and a host of extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2022 at Larned Cemetery with Chaplain Jeff Johnson presiding. Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2022 at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in Larned Cemetery, Larned. Memorials may be given to Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice in care of Beckwith Mortuary, PO Box 477, Larned, KS 67550.
