Laurine Brown, 88, died Aug. 20 at the Rush County Nursing Home in LaCrosse. Born Sept. 2, 1923 in Ransom, she was the daughter of Adolph and Anna (Roediger) Schweitzer. On Feb. 14, 1942 she married Walter Leo Brown in McCracken. He died on Nov. 28, 1991. A resident of Great Bend since 1981, coming from Ransom, Brownell and McCracken, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Brown was a member of the First Assembly of God and the Barton County Historical Society, both in Great Bend.
Survivors include four sons, Walter Duane Brown and wife Diane of Fowler, Ill., Jim L. Brown of Loveland, Colo., Timothy E. Brown and wife Hazel of Leavenworth, and Kent C. Brown and wife Kristy of Wichita; two daughters, Judy Schwindt and husband Barry of La Crosse and Lori Crane and husband Bill of Lyons; one sister, Virginia Conkright of Ransom; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Raymond Schweitzer, Garland Schweitzer, Harvey Schweitzer, and Wally Schweitzer; six sisters, Selma Walters, Dora Brown, Helen Zumbrain, Ruth Chapman, Lena Chapman, and Sylvia Wasinger; and one grandson, Monty Burk.
Private family services will be held. Burial will be at the Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Barton County Historical Society or Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice, in care of Bryant Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
