Lena M. Wharton 1913 - 2011


GREAT BEND — Lena M. Wharton, 98, died Jan. 15 at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend.
Born July 5, 1913, she was the daughter of Henry and Mary (Stegman) Kittel.
On July 18, 1934, she married Roscoe Spencer Wharton in Great Bend. He died on Dec. 14, 1983. A resident of Great Bend since 1983, coming from Bison, she was a homemaker also working for Thies Packing for 25 years as a meat processor. She enjoyed gardening and needlework. 
Mrs. Wharton was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Olmitz, later attending Trinity United Methodist Church in Great Bend.
Survivors include two sons, Nelson Wharton and wife Donna and Lyle “George” Wharton and wife Connie, both of Great Bend; two daughters, Wanda Luft and husband Jack and Roxie Crawford and husband John, both of Great Bend; a brother, Norman Kittel and wife Emilia, Lawrence; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Dolores Anton and Geneva Smith.
Funeral services are scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend with Father Reginald Urban officiating. Burial will be at the Great Bend Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
