TOPEKA — Lenora Jean McMillan, 83, of Topeka, went home to be with her Lord on March 23, at her home. She was born Feb. 11, 1929, in Fort Scott, the daughter of Eugene and Edith Duncan Johnston. She attended Great Bend High School and obtained an Associate of Arts Degree in Nursing from Barton County Community College. The early years of her life were spent raising her family in Great Bend before moving to Topeka in 1975.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend and First Assembly of God Church in Topeka.
Lenora married Vernon L. Dunekack in 1946 in Holyrood. He preceded her in death in 1974. She married Joseph L. McMillan in 1977 in Topeka. He survives.
Other survivors include her children, Vernon L. (Devona) Dunekack Jr. of Topeka, Sharon (JC) Morgan of Lee’s Summit, Mo., and Laura (Chuck) Ritter of Kansas City, Mo.; four grandchildren, Will Dunekack and Mary Palma, both of Topeka, and Tim Ritter and Matt Ritter, both of Kansas City, Mo.; five great-grandchildren, Lindsay, Zoe, Olivia, Ava and Dino, all of Topeka; two brothers, Jim and Jerry Johnston; and one sister, Joan Johnston. She was preceded in death by her brother, George Kleck, and her sister, Judy Tuttle.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Lenora will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
