ELLINWOOD — Leona “Lonie” (Herrman) Klein, 82, passed away April 13 at Ellinwood District Hospital, Ellinwood. Born Sept. 16, 1932 at Liebenthal, she was the daughter of Stephen and Anna (Kreutzer) Herrman.  
A resident of Ellinwood since 1961, she worked as a Clerk for C.O. Mammels Grocery, Boger Pharmacy and 27 years in the day care business. Her memberships included Daughters of Isabella, Altar Society, and was the first female elected to St. Joseph’s School Board. On Jan. 21, 1953 she married Harold “Irvin” Klein at LaCrosse; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Harold Klein (Shelly), Salina; Rev. Terrance Klein, Dodge City; a daughter, Penny Huffman (Ron), Salina; a brother, Stephen Jr. (Caroleen), Hayward, Calif.; two sisters, Betty Martell, Hays; Frances Holopirek, Timken; seven grandchildren: The Honorable J. Basil Dannebohm, Joseph Dannebohm, Trent Kluesner, Sara Cornette, Skyler Klein, Adam Klein, and Shayla Klein; six great-grandchildren; brother-in-laws, Duane Klein, Gerald Ruder and Lawrence Munsch; many nieces and nephews, day-care children and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers and five sisters.  Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m., Thursday, April 16 at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Ellinwood, with Bishop John Brungardt and Father Terrance Klein co-celebrants.  Visitation will be at Minnis Chapel on Wednesday, April 15, from 12-6 p.m., with the Altar Society Rosary at 3 p.m..  Vigil Service will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church starting at 7 p.m..  Memorials may be given to St. Joseph’s School in care of Minnis Chapel, P.O. Box 246, Ellinwood, KS  67526.
