HOISINGTON — Lonnie B. Irvin, 57, died July 19 at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. He was born March 2, 1955, at LaCrosse, the son of Dean and Inez (Brackney) Irvin. He was a 1973 graduate of McCracken High School, was a student at Dodge City Community College, and was a graduate of Fort Hays State University.  
His first job was in the fall of 1981, coaching girls basketball in LaCrosse, followed by two years coaching girls basketball in Ellis. He was a teacher and coach in Texas for one year prior to coming to Hoisington in the fall of 1989.  He was head football coach for the Hoisington Cardinals from 1997 to 2010.
A Hoisington resident, Mr. Irvin was a U.S. Army veteran.  
Survivors include his former wife, Tamera Higgins Irvin of Hoisington; daughter Kyra Horesky of Hays; son Cameron Horesky of Hoisington; and an aunt, Helen Goering of Aurora, Colo. He was preceded in death by one brother, Perry J. Irvin.
Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 22, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Monday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hoisington with Father Ultan Murphy, celebrant. Interment will be at McCracken Cemetery in McCracken. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to McCracken Alumni Association or McCracken Library, in care of the funeral home.
