Loretta M. Gleissner 1927 - 2014

TOPEKA — Loretta M. Gleissner, 87, of Topeka, passed away Oct. 25, in Topeka. She was born May 18, 1927, in New Baden, Ill., the daughter of Anton and Elizabeth (Mathews) Griesbaum.  
Loretta met Frederick F. Gleissner while working in St. Louis and on Oct. 1, 1949, they were married in Great Bend. He preceded her in death in 2006. She was also preceded in death by her son, Carl in 1987; sisters, Josephine and Margaret; and brothers, Anthony and Barnard.
Survivors include several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Loretta and Frederick hosted many young people from Up With People, where they traveled singing and performing. She was strong in her faith and was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and past member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, both in Topeka.
Loretta was a wonderful cook, filling their home with the wonderful aromas of cookies, homemade bread, vegetables, fruits and jellies.  She was a wife, mother, sister, aunt, homemaker and friend. She touched many lives.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. on Thursday, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5973 SW 25th Street in Topeka. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Topeka. Mrs. Gleissner will lie in state today at the Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., with a parish rosary being prayed at 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Aldersgate Village Good Samaritan Fund, 7220 SW Asbury Drive Topeka, KS 66614 or Grace Hospice, 3715 SW 29th, Suite 100 Topeka, KS 66614.
