Lula Mae Alpers 1938 - 2013

HUTCHINSON — Lula Mae Alpers, 75, died Oct. 15 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. Born May 5, 1938, at Buffalo, Okla., she was the daughter of Walker Clinton and Elma Mae (Harmon) Irion. Lula Mae graduated from Northwestern College in Alva, Okla., with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. On Aug. 12, 1964, she married Wayne L. Alpers.The couple shared 49 years together. He survives. She was an elementary teacher and substitute teacher for schools in Stafford County and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Alpers was a volunteer for RSVP, the Salvation Army and Wesley Towers. She attended Peace Church.
Other survivors include two children, Sonja Reiser and husband Dennis of Hutchinson and Aaron Alpers and wife Jill of Wichita; five grandchildren, Allison and Kimberly Reiser, Nathan, Austin, and Shayla Alpers; and sister-in-law, Esther Irion of Buffalo, Okla. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Charles Irion.
Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Peace Church, 492 NE 140th St., in Hudson, with the Rev. Dr. Kim Biery and Pastor Amy Foster officiating. Burial will be at the Peace Cemetery following the service.
The family invites friends and family to join them at Hudson Community Hall for dinner following the burial. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9  p.m. Friday, with family to receive friends from 6-8 p.m., at Elliott Mortuary.
