GREAT BEND — Luther Calvin Keil, 96, passed away August 29, 2020, at McCall Manor, Salina. He was born July 5, 1924 at Galatia, to Siegmund and Ernestine (Becker) Keil. Luther married Patricia R. Browne April 21, 1947, at Folkston, GA. She died Oct. 19, 2010.
Luther, a Great Bend resident since 2009 coming from Framingham Mass., was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Elks Lodge, both of Great Bend, and the Fleet Reserve Association. He proudly served his country during WWII and the Korean War, retiring after 22 years from the U.S. Navy with the rank of Aviation Structural Mechanic Chief Petty Officer. Following his Navy retirement, Luther was a sales clerk for Macy’s Department Store.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Herbert Keil, Melvin Keil, and Arnie Keil; and three sisters, Milda Hopper, Leona Crotty, and Esther Kruckenberg.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 5, 2020, St. Mark Lutheran Church, with Rev. Adam Wutka presiding. Masks and social distancing are required. Interment will follow at Golden Belt Memorial Park, Great Bend, with military rites conducted by U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, September 4, at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to St. Mark Lutheran Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
