Luther Morgenstern, 98, died Dec. 6 at  Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Aug. 23, 1916, on the farm in Russell County, the son of Sam G. and Lena (Radke) Morgenstern. On Aug. 23, 1949, he married Helen Margheim in Hoisington. She died Feb. 11, 2008. Luther was a farmer and a contract pumper in the oil fields, retiring in 1980.
 He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army as a Private First Class from 1941 to 1945. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
 He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend, and the V.F.W., Hoisington.
Survivors include a brother, Martin Morgenstern of Great Bend. He was preceded in death a brother, Ralph Morgenstern, and a sister, Amanda Morgenstern.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 12, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home Chapel in Hoisington, with the Rev. Mark Galbraith presiding. Burial will be in Hoisington Cemetery, with military honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard and American Legion Riders Flag Line. Friends may call 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Kans for Kids or Golden Belt Humane Society in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.nicholsonrickefh.net.
