CLAFLIN — Lyle Kent McDermed, 78, was born Jan. 17, 1936, in Lyons, to Carvin and Wilma (Kent) McDermed. Lyle passed away April 6, 2014. Lyle spent his childhood in Kansas where he was a graduate of Claflin High School and Emporia State University.
Lyle’s love for his Lord was never ending and he remained a faithful and active member of the Lutheran church until his death. He was raised in a musical family and music was a big part of his life. He was a member of the Trinity choir at the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Mark Lee; and brother, Glen. Lyle is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lila (Schrepel); daughter, Denise and her husband, Absalom Harvey; nephews, nieces and numerous friends.
Lyle will be remembered for his wit, keen sense of humor, ever-ready smile and fun-loving spirit. Fishing and boating were among his favorite past times. He was an avid reader and dedicated bridge player--having made many good friends at the bridge table. He and Lila enjoyed traveling and many wonderful scuba-diving trips throughout the years. Though Lyle will be greatly missed here on earth, Denise and Lila remain comforted by the knowledge that they will all be together again one day.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church in Tyler, Texas with Pastor Art Hill officiating. Graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday at the Geneseo Cemetery in Geneseo, with Pastor Daniel Harders officiating.
