Marilyn J. (Davis) Hawk-Warkentine 1930 - 2017

Marilyn J. (Davis) Hawk-Warkentine, 86, was promoted to her eternal home on Jan. 17, 2017, at Diversicare of Larned. Born Feb. 18, 1930, at Kinsley, she was the daughter of Leslie S. and Rita L. Sanford Davis. In 1935, she moved to Larned. On Dec. 12, 1946, she married Lewis Junior Hawk at Sterling. Four children were born to this union, Lorrene, Darrell, Marilyn L. and Vicki. She was a devoted wife and stay-at-home mother while her children were young. She worked various jobs while her children were in their high school years. She enjoyed her grandchildren, sewing, gardening, and artistic crafts. In retirement, she marketed her tole painting on woodcrafts produced by her husband. During winters in Texas, they enjoyed square dancing, line dancing and many visits to various local places of interest with their many friends. They also enjoyed the RV life, traveling to many points of interest west of the Mississippi.
After Junior’s death on March 22, 1998, Marilyn married Dave Warkentine on July 1, 2000, in Newton. They continued to enjoy wintering in Texas for several years. In 2013 they moved to Great Bend to be closer to family.
Other survivors include a son, Darrell Hawk of Shawnee; two daughters, Marilyn L. (Larry) Stude, of Larned, and Vicki (Brad) Schmitt, of Great Bend; two stepsons, Kendyl Warkentine of Wichita and Brian Warkentine of Oklahoma; a stepdaughter, Marty Warkentine of Newton; five grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lorrene Hawk; a brother, William H. Davis; and a great-grandson, Carter Haney.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 23, at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Rob Schmutz presiding. Burial will follow at the Larned Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, and 1-8 p.m. on Sunday with family present from 5-7 p.m. Memorials may be given to Kindred Hospice, in care of the funeral home.
