GREENFIELD, Ind. — Marlin “Gene” Tammen, 79, passed away May 22, 2015, at Hancock Regional Hospital. Born on Dec.27, 1935, in Kansas City, Mo., he was the son of Herman Tammen and Gladys Tammen. In 1953, he graduated from Great Bend High School. He received his Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree from Wichita State University. In October of 1956, he married Cheryl Loy (Foos). He held various positions in the Federal Government from 1962-1987, including Midwest Director of the Office of Personnel Management. He enjoyed playing poker, playing bridge, spending time with his grandchildren, watching movies, and traveling with Cheryl in their motorhome. He was an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts and the Indiana Pacers.
Mr. Tammen served in the Army from 1954-1956.
Survivors include his sons, Craig (Cindy) Tammen and JD (Angie) Tammen, both of Greenfield, Ind. ; grandchildren, Michael (Mimi) Tammen, of Greenwood, Ryan Tammen of Avon, and Kevin Tammen and Kelsi Tammen, both of Greenfield, Ind. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl; and his parents, Herman and Gladys Tammen.
Per Gene’s request, there will be no public services. Private family services will take place at a later date.
