LAWRENCE — Mary Ann Boyd Fleske, 89, Lawrence, Kan., passed away on Friday, Jan. 25, in Lawrence. A memorial service will be held at 2 on Saturday, Feb. 2, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Pastor Bob Leiste, Redeemer Lutheran Church will officiate.

Mary was born Nov. 4, 1929, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Garland and Beana Boyd.

She met her husband Leonard G. Fleske while both were working in Phoenix, Ariz. and married him in 1949 in DePere, Wisc. They operated a wheat farm and cattle ranch in Pawnee County (Larned) and Barton County (Great Bend), Kan. They retired to Lawrence in 1989. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include, her brother Tom Boyd, DePere, Wisc.; her son Leonard T (Sheila) Fleske and her daughters Linda (Randy) Swain and Betsy Cantrell; grandchildren Wendy (Keith) Hansen, Carey (Jennifer) Fleske, Jamie (Mimi) Swain, Kit Swain and Lindsay Cantrell; and great grandchildren Eric and Dane Hansen, Lyndie and Samuel Fleske.

Mary loved hosting and attending family gatherings at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas so she could spend special time with her children, grandchildren and later great grandchildren. She encouraged and supported them with kind words and her prayers. She was a devoted spouse and a devout Christian.

She was a skilled bridge player and enjoyed playing with friends and family. Like all in her family she followed sports closely and was always aware of the latest news and we will miss getting updates from her on KU and KC area sports.
