LARNED — Mary Elizabeth Schartz. 99, passed away July 9, 2017, at Country Living of Larned.
She was born Dec. 4, 1917, in Chanute the daughter of John A. Jr. and Nellie E. Hanville Northart. A lifetime area resident, she was a homemaker. On June 2, 1937, she married William (Bill) J. Schartz in Ellinwood. He passed away June 8, 2007.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Altar Society, both of Larned.
Survivors include two sons, LeRoy William Schartz, Sedgwick; Daniel Jerome Schartz, Gothenburg, Neb.; a daughter, Patricia A. Thompson, Larned; 12 grandchildren; 56 great grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William; a son, Robert A. Schartz; two brothers, Paul and Leo Northart; and two sisters, Ella Bonham and Betty Simmonis.
Vigil and rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Beckwith Mortuary in Larned. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Larned with Father Bernard Felix presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Belpre Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Mary E. Schartz Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
