LARNED — Mary Frances (Brown) Craven died Jan. 6, 2017, at Diversicare in Larned. Born Sept. 29, 1927, in Hays, she was the daughter of John A. and Dorothy Ruth (Lacey) Brown. She grew up on the family farm just west of Russell. In 1945 she graduated from Russell High School. On April 25, 1947, she was united in marriage to Arthur Loyd “Red” Craven at Emporia. He died on May 2, 1993. She worked for her husband’s plumbing business, answering the phone and taking messages.
Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Craven of Larned, and Barbara Olsen of Moscow, Idaho; a son, Robert Craven of Luray; four grandchildren; four great-grandsons; three step-great-grandsons; sister-in-law, Mary Alice Craven of Hays; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers John Brown and James Brown.
As she wished, there will be no service. A private burial of ashes will follow at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Russell Library or the Jordaan Memorial Library in Larned in care of Pohlman-Verner-Peeler Mortuary.
