Mary Helen Kummer-Maneth, 77, died Dec. 10, 2015 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. She was born Jan. 20, 1938 at Cunningham, the daughter of Joseph B. and Lucy H. (Ebenkamp) Rohling.
She was a 1956 graduate of Cunningham High School and a 1959 graduate of the Dominican School of Nursing. She married Thomas Walter Kummer August 6, 1960 at Cunningham. He died March 22, 2010. She then married Paul E. Maneth July 24, 2015 at Great Bend. A Great Bend resident since 1956, coming from Cunningham, Mary was a Registered Nurse for Russell Clinic, Central Kansas Medical Center and Dominican Sisters’ Convent Infirmary. She instructed classes in nursing for the Association for Continuing Education and Barton Community College.
She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, Altar Society, Daughters of Isabella, Great Bend Cemetery Board, Great Bend Garden Club, Prince of Peace Hospitality Commission, Great Bend Beautification Committee, EHU and PEO, all of Great Bend.
Survivors include her husband, Paul E. Maneth, of the home; three sons, Tony Kummer and his wife Margo of Winston-Salem, N.C., Terry Kummer and his wife Margaret of Colby, and Steve Kummer and his wife Kim of Great Bend; one stepdaughter, Anne Higgins and her husband Lt. Col. Sean, ret., of Owensboro, Ky.; one stepson, Don Maneth and his wife Tatiane of San Diego, Calif.; one brother, Richard Rohling and his wife Diane of Pratt; three sisters, JoAnn Clouse and her husband Ken of Lawrence, Janet Schield and her husband Terry of Medicine Lodge, and Marlene Miller and her husband Larry of Garden City; 12 grandchildren, Ethan Kummer, Anna Kummer, Abbie Kummer, Brett Ellis and his wife Natasha, Preston Higgins, Ashlyn Higgins, Caitlin Higgins, Molly Higgins, Collin Higgins, Brendan Higgins, Isabel Higgins and Jack Higgins; two great-grandchildren, Charlotte Ellis and Benson Higgins; and 18 nieces and nephews.
Altar Society Rosary will be at 4 p.m., and Vigil Service with Daughters of Isabella Rosary will be at 7 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 13, at Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 14, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend, with Father Ted Stoecklein celebrating. Interment will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 13, at the funeral home. Memorials are requested to BCC Foundation Kummer Family Scholarship to benefit Business and Nursing students or Great Bend Garden Club or Great Bend Beautification Committee, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
