HOISINGTON — Mary Rosalie Hunt, 88, passed away Jan. 7, 2020, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. She was born on Oct. 20, 1931, at Claflin to James and Fannie (Newkirk) Hunt. She married Homer Philpott and he later passed away. 

A Kansas City resident since 1969, Mary moved to Hoisington in November 2019 to be closer to family due to health reasons. She was the lay minister for Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Kansas City and attended Crosswinds of Kansas Church in Hoisington. She previously worked as a claims representative for the Kansas City Social Security Office and was the ex-director of Shepherds Center in Kansas City. Mary was a volunteer at Bessie’s House and a member of the Quilting Club.  

Survivors include, a son, Mitchell “Lee” Grandclair of Hoisington; a stepdaughter, Mary Beth Bazine of Kansas City; six grandchildren, Matthew Grandclair (Jeanna), Tyler Grandclair (Jodi), and Wyatt Grandclair (April) all of Hoisington, Chrysta Sanchez (Arodie), Micala Merlott and Caleb Merlott; 11 great grandchildren; and a nephew, James Cunnigham (Edye) of Topeka. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Phill; a son, Thomas Auernheimer; a brother, Jack Hunt; and a sister, Sadie Cunningham. 

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 10, 2020 at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, with Pastor Mark Williams presiding. Interment will be in the Claflin Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Bessie’s House and Shepherds Center in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, PO Box 146, Hoisington, Kansas 67544.
