HOISINGTON — MaryBeth Higgins, 78, died Aug. 5, 2023, at her home in Hoisington. She was born Dec. 31, 1944, in Hays, Kan., the daughter of Warren E. and Margaret L. (Walters) Moore. MaryBeth graduated from La Crosse High School in 1962. 

On May 8, 1965, she married Robert C. Higgins in La Crosse, Kan.

MaryBeth worked for the ASCS/USDA, beginning in La Crosse in 1978 and transferring to Great Bend where she retired in May 2007. MaryBeth was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Hoisington and a member of the Altar Society. She was a former member of the St. Michael’s Catholic Church and Altar Society of La Crosse. A breast cancer survivor, MaryBeth was active in the Breast Friends Cancer Support Group and the Alzheimer’s Support Group. She was an avid reader often seen sitting on her porch with a book in her hand. Come basketball season though she would be cheering on her favorite Kansas Jayhawks. 

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert C. Higgins of the home; son, Timothy Higgins and wife Nicole of Hoisington; daughter, Rebecca DuVall and husband Harry of Olathe; brother, Richard Moore of Albert; sisters, Vickie Barr, and Shari Johnson, both of Topeka, and Terri J. Gray of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and her three beloved grandchildren, Lauren and Thomas Higgins of Hoisington, and Mallory DuVall and significant other Nick Pecina of Kansas City; and four great grandchildren, Harrison, Amelia, Baker and Charlee. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may sign the book today through Friday, there will be no viewing as per her wish cremation has taken place.

A Rosary will be said prior to mass starting at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 12, 2023, with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 a.m., all at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington, celebrated by Father Warren Stecklein. Inurnment will take place at 2 p.m., Saturday at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse, Kan. Memorials may be made to Breast Friends Cancer Support Group or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, PO Box 146, Hoisington, KS 67544.
