HOISINGTON — Megan E. Escalante, 30, died Sept. 6 in Reno County. She was born Jan. 13, 1981, at Russell, the daughter of John M. and Catherine R. (Munk) Debes. She married Chris Escalante on July 19, 2008, at Topeka. She worked for Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington as a Medical Lab Scientist. She grew up in Hoisington, lived in Topeka for 11 years, and moved back to Hoisington in 2010.
Mrs. Escalante was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington. She was a 1999 graduate of Hoisington High School, received her associate degree from Washburn University in Topeka, and her bachelor’s degree in Clinical Science from Wichita State University in 2010.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; parents; one brother, Capt. Joshua M. and wife Julia A. Debes of Fairfax, Va.; parents-in-law, Alex and Emma Escalante of Topeka; brothers-in-law, Anthony and wife Ann Escalante of Topeka, and Scott and wife Erin Nicole Escalante of San Antonio, Texas; four nieces and one nephew, "the Escalante Family"; and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hoisington, with Father Francis Oroffa officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, with a vigil service at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Friday. Inurnment will take place at a later date. Memorial donations are suggested to: Father Don Debes Mission Fund, Papua, New Guinea; Kans for Kids; or the Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of the funeral home.
