Mildred Kathryn Van Scyoc-Carson 1925-2012

HOISINGTON — Mildred Kathryn Van Scyoc-Carson, 86, died June 5 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Aug. 31, 1925 in Gove County, she was the daughter of Ralph and Carrie Mabel (Bailey) Willson.

On Sept. 28, 1941 she married Elmo Van Scyoc in Collyer. He died on March 16, 1961. On July 6, 1963 she married James Richard Carson in Hoisington. He died on July 8, 2010. A resident of Hoisington for 65 years, she was a homemaker and co-owner of Carson’s Department Store.
Mrs. Van Scyoc-Carson was a member of the First Christian Church in Hoisington.
Survivors include three sons, Larry Van Scyoc and his wife Irma, Wichita, Leland Van Scyoc and Lonnie Van Scyoc and his wife Sandy, both of Hoisington; three daughters, Luann Gutierrez, Hoisington, Ladonna Wallace and her husband Dennis, Wichita; and Leilani Schenkel and her husband Scott, Great Bend; a sister, Wilma Meljo, Hoisington; 14 grandchildren, Joel Gutierrez, Hoisington, Timothy Van Scyoc  and wife DeeAnn, Wichita, Brandon Wallace and his wife Dalena, Partridge, Aaron Wallace and his wife Kristy, Wichita; Ryan Wallace and his wife Brie, Savannah, Ga.; Sheryl Van Scyoc, Wichita; Casey Elliott and her husband J. B., Lawrence, Ashley Earnest and her husband Karl, Topeka, Tonya Jones, Great Bend, Lashon Van Scyoc and his wife April, Hoisington, Brittany Van Scyoc, Hoisington, Clinton Van Scyoc, Topeka, Evan Schenkel, Great Bend; and Cory Schenkel, Fort Scott; and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Roland Willson, Dean Willson, Melvin Willson, Kenneth Willson, and Bobby Willson; and one sister, Laura Jean Willson.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Grace Community Church in Great Bend with Pastor Roy Savage and Pastor Aaron Wallace officiating. Burial will be at the Hoisington Cemetery. Friends may visit from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bryant Funeral Home.
