ELLINWOOD — Mildred Schiewe Holmgren, 93, died April 27 at Sunshine Home in Buhler. She was born Dec. 11, 1917, at Ellinwood, the daughter of Reinhold Schiewe and Adella Panning. She married Louis John Schiewe Sept. 6, 1943, at Paducah, Ky. He died July 6, 1962. She then married Eldred M. ("Swede") Holmgren on Oct. 18, 1969, in Ellinwood. He died Feb. 8, 1982.

She was a graduate of Adle Hale Business School in Hutchinson. She was a Boeing worker during World War II, and also worked as a dorm mother at Grace School of Nursing in Hutchinson, and as a telephone operator and bookkeeper for Dover Drilling in Ellinwood. She had been a resident of Buhler for the past three months, coming from Ellinwood.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ellinwood.

Survivors include a son, Larry Schiewe and daughter Janice Cross of Buhler; stepson Larry Holmgren, Ellis; two stepdaughters, Ann Eldridge of Emporia and Linda Wilhelm of Olathe; a sister, Lucille McLaughlin of Lynwood, Wash.; sister-in-law Wilma Schiewe of Pratt; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Jeff Frakes officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery, Ellinwood. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Sunday at Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood, with family receiving friends from 6-7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ellinwood.
