Naomi Ruth Hill 1925-2016

ELLINWOOD — Naomi Ruth (Monday) Hill, 91, passed away Aug. 14, 2016 at Ellinwood District Hospital. Born on March 4, 1925 in Allendale, Mo., she was the daughter of Lester and Gladys (Hendrickson) Monday. She graduated from Lamoni High School in Lamoni, Iowa.
Ruth married Warren Max Hill on Nov. 3, 1942 in Albany, Mo. They celebrated 60 years together. Max preceded her in death on July 20, 2003. Max and Ruth moved to Sedgwick from Southern Iowa in 1956 and to Ellinwood in 1969.
Ruth worked as a cook for USD 355 in Ellinwood and also in the kitchen at Woodhaven Care Center for nine years. She was a Meals on Wheels volunteer and a volunteer reader at the St. Joseph Catholic School in Ellinwood. She was a member of the St. Joseph Church, St. Joseph Altar Society, Daughters of Isabella, American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary.
Ruth is survived by sons Roger (Tammi) Hill of Henderson, Colo.; Steve Hill, Ellinwood; Keith (Faye) Hill of Sedgwick; Warren (Arlene) Hill of Cedaredge, Colo.; 11 grandchildren, Ronnie Rubia, Rhonda (Phillip) Pettijohn, Robbie Rubia, Terry (Niki) Hill, David (Angela) Hill, Nathan (Marissa) Mathews, Christopher (Brandi) Hill, Amy (Jason) Langen, Bradley (Kristie) Hill, Crysta (Curtis) Guhr, and Karen (Aaron) Stucky; 22 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren; brother James (Marilyn) Monday, brother-in-law Wendell Palmer, sisters-in-law Elaine Hill, Darlene Hill, Sara (Jim) Van Nostrand, and Donna (Russ) Roskens, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Jean Martinez; daughter-in-law Jane Ann Hill; sisters Irene Palmer, Bonnie Durham and Marilyn Lindley; sister-in-law Marybelle Hill; and brothers-in-law Ralph, Dean, Maurice Hill, and Lou Lindley.
Visitation will be Friday Aug. 19 from 1-6 p.m. with family present from 4-6 p.m. at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood. Recitation of the Rosary by the St. Joseph Church Altar Society will be at 3 p.m. with the Wake service at 7 p.m., both at Minnis Chapel.
Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellinwood with Father Terrance Klein officiating. Burial will follow at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery in Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church or St. Joseph Catholic School in care of Minnis Chapel.
