Nita Gaye Peterson 1935 - 2017

LARNED — Nita Gaye Peterson, 82, passed away Dec. 7, 2017, at Country Living of Larned. Nita was born April 10, 1935, in Great Bend, the daughter of Edwin and Juanita Smith Geil. She graduated from Pawnee Rock High School in 1953. Following high school she attended a small business college in Salina and worked in an office at Schilling Air Force Base. Starting in April 1964 Nita was the office manager at the family business, Peterson Electric. She married Donald D. Peterson on Dec. 12, 1954, in Albert. He passed away Jan. 29, 2016. For fun Nita was in a 10 Point Pitch card club with Don and was in a bowling league for many years, which included traveling to both state and national bowling tournaments. She also enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandkids.
She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Larned.
Survivors include, two sons, Duayne (Tina) Peterson, Greensboro, N.C., and Bryan (Sarah) Peterson, of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Peterson; and a sister, Virginia Ann Geil.
Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017 at the Great Bend Cemetery with Darryl Peterson presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Memorials may be given to the Pawnee County Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
