She then completed elementary and middle school at the school in Yale, SD. Nita attended high school at James Valley Christian School, where she graduated in 1970. After high school, she worked at the Beadle County Assessor’s Office. In 1971, Nita graduated from Northwest College of Commerce at Huron, SD.

Nita enjoyed sharing her faith with youth by serving on a bus ministry and teaching Sunday School for eighteen years at a First Assembly of God Church at Great Bend. Supporting the community was important to Nita. She made it a point to volunteer in numerous ways within her community and church; whether it was taking tickets at a James Valley Christian High School event, helping the elderly at the Salvation Army, or assisting at the Jan Manolis Safe Center. She enjoyed watching football and other sports on tv and was an avid fan of the University of Kansas Jayhawks. Nita was a loyal friend and loved keeping up with her family and friends across the country.
